At the Office

Counselling in the office is the good, old fashioned way of doing things regardless of the additional, we'll say modern, resources used while the session is taking place. After the paperwork is out of the way the first step tends to involve starting up an alliance, of sorts, often referred to as the therapeutic relationship. How strong this alliance is comes down to your presentation of what is happening in your life. Similar to other health care professions my ability to assist is dependent on the accuracy of the information you provide. I don't need to know everything about you, just enough to make sure I am helping you.

A typical session has 4 parts: Seeing how things have been since the last session; Gather new information, if any, including taking up "homework" given during last session or provided over email and doing formal assessments; Breaking down the issue into more manageable pieces and using a variety of methods to resolve negative patterns; and, Integrating those resolutions into life.
